About ShiatsuWhat is shiatsuShiatsu is a healing physical therapy which originated in Japan. Since the 1970's shiatsu has developed internationally and is now widely used throughout the world. It is influenced by oriental medicine and by western therapies. The practitioner applies gentle pressure with palms and thumbs along energy channels (meridians) to stimulate the body's natural healing power. Rotations and gentle stretches may be used to release tension in the body. Shiatsu is characterized by its great simplicity and is a deeply relaxing therapy that considers the whole person. It can be a gateway to acceptance and healing. How can shiatsu help youShiatsu may help to relieve physical and emotional tension and it can support you in moving towards better vitality and health. Shiatsu does not aim to cure any specific condition, but it seems to help the body to get better more quickly. Shiatsu for example may help to speed recovery after an injury. A recent study by Professor Long at Leeds University shows that shiatsu significantly reduces symptoms of tension and stress as well as problems with muscles, joints and body structure, including back pain and joint pain. You don't need to have something wrong with you to benefit from shiatsu! This independent academic study also shows that shiatsu improves your sense of wellbeing and that it prevents stress related disorders.
